The Old Locket
The room remained silent.
Everyone stared at Grandpa.
The old man’s face had turned pale.
The doctor carefully held up the silver locket.
“What do you mean you buried it?”
Grandpa slowly sat down.
His hands were trembling.
“Twenty years ago, this locket belonged to my daughter.”
The room froze.
The baby’s mother looked confused.
“Dad… I’ve never seen that before.”
Grandpa nodded.
“Because it wasn’t yours.”
His eyes filled with tears.
“It belonged to your older sister.”
The room became silent.
Very few people knew the story.
Years before, Grandpa had lost his first daughter in a tragic accident.
When she was buried, her favorite silver locket had been placed beside her.
Nobody had seen it since.
Until now.
The doctor carefully opened the locket.
Inside was a tiny photograph.
Grandpa gasped.
It was the same picture he remembered placing inside decades ago.
The nurse looked shocked.
“How is this possible?”
Nobody had an answer.
Then something unexpected happened.
The newborn suddenly stopped crying.
Slowly, he turned his head toward Grandpa.
And smiled.
The old man froze.
Because the smile looked familiar.
Very familiar.
Then the doctor noticed something hidden inside the locket.
A folded piece of paper.
With trembling hands, he unfolded it.
Inside were four handwritten words:
“I kept my promise.”
The room fell completely silent.
Grandpa’s eyes widened.
Because those were the exact words his daughter had written in her final birthday card to him years ago.
Nobody else knew about that message.
Nobody.
Then the hospital lights flickered once.
The newborn smiled again.
And Grandpa quietly whispered:
“Emily…?”
At that exact moment, the baby’s tiny hand pointed toward the hospital room door.
Everyone turned.
A small white envelope lay on the floor outside.
Across the front were five chilling words:
“Open On His First Birthday.”
