The Last Bird

Nobody spoke.

The father’s hands trembled as he looked at the old photograph.

The picture had faded with age, but one detail was perfectly clear.

The mysterious child was holding the same tiny white bird.

The mother frowned.

“I’ve never seen this child before.”

Grandpa stepped closer.

The moment he saw the photograph, his face turned pale.

“I know this place,” he whispered.

Everyone looked at him.

“This picture was taken over fifty years ago.”

The family froze.

“But this house wasn’t even built fifty years ago,” the father said.

Grandpa slowly nodded.

“Before this house stood here… there was an old farmhouse.”

He pointed to the child in the picture.

“My older brother used to tell me stories about him.”

The baby suddenly laughed.

Everyone turned.

The tiny white bird landed gently on the baby’s shoulder.

Then it dropped a small silver ring into his lap.

Engraved inside were four words:

“Return It To Me.”

Before anyone could react, the bird flew toward the old oak tree at the edge of the garden.

The baby pointed at the tree and smiled.

At that exact moment…

a small wooden door hidden in the trunk slowly creaked open by itself.

The family stared in disbelief.

Nobody had ever seen the door before.

The father took one cautious step toward it…

and heard a child’s voice whisper from inside:

“You’re finally here.”
