The Secret Name
The room fell completely silent.
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
Dr. Harris stared at the folded note in his hands.
The words were still there.
“Hello Sunshine.”
Lily’s mother slowly stepped closer.
“What is that?” she whispered.
The doctor carefully unfolded the paper.
There was nothing else written on it.
Just those two words.
The nickname that only Lily’s grandmother had ever used.
The nickname that nobody outside the family was supposed to know.
Lily’s father felt a chill run down his spine.
“Who put that note there?”
The nurse immediately checked the bassinet.
There was nothing unusual.
No toys.
No gifts.
No cards.
No explanation.
The note seemed to have appeared from nowhere.
Lily stared at it quietly.
She wasn’t surprised.
In fact, she looked almost relieved.
As if she had been expecting it.
Her mother noticed.
“Lily… do you know something?”
The little girl hesitated.
Then she slowly nodded.
Everyone froze.
“What do you mean?” her father asked.
Lily looked at her baby brother.
Then she pointed toward the note.
“I saw it before.”
The room became silent again.
“You saw this note before?” the doctor asked.
Lily nodded.
“In my dream.”
A nervous look appeared on the nurse’s face.
The doctor tried to smile.
“Dreams can feel very real sometimes.”
But Lily shook her head.
“No.”
The little girl reached toward the paper.
On the back corner was a tiny blue star.
A hand-drawn blue star.
The moment Lily saw it, her eyes widened.
“That’s hers.”
Her mother frowned.
“Whose?”
“Grandma’s.”
The color immediately drained from her mother’s face.
Years ago, Lily’s grandmother had a habit of drawing tiny blue stars on birthday cards, letters, and gifts.
It had always been her special signature.
Very few people knew about it.
The doctor slowly turned the paper over.
There it was.
A small blue star.
Perfectly drawn.
Exactly as Lily described.
Nobody could explain it.
A loud thunderclap echoed outside the hospital window.
Rain continued to fall over Manhattan.
The room suddenly felt colder.
Then something unexpected happened.
The newborn baby opened his eyes.
Everyone turned toward the bassinet.
The baby wasn’t looking at Lily.
He wasn’t looking at his parents.
He was staring directly at the hospital room door.
Slowly…
His tiny hand lifted.
And pointed.
The room froze.
The door was closed.
Nobody was standing there.
Yet the baby continued pointing.
Then, without warning, the hospital room lights flickered.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
The nurse gasped.
The doctor immediately walked to the door and opened it.
The hallway was empty.
Completely empty.
But something lay on the floor outside.
A small white envelope.
Dr. Harris picked it up.
His hands trembled.
Written across the front were four words:
“For Lily’s Eyes Only.”
Everyone stared in disbelief.
Lily slowly stepped forward.
And whispered:
“She’s still here.”
The lights flickered again.
Cut to black.
